Charlevoix at a Glance
Charlevoix is located in the Canadian Shield and surrounded by the Laurentian
Mountains and St.
Lawrence River. Its unique landscape—owed to a meteorite that fell
onto the region millions of year ago, as well as by earthquakes and glaciation—now
makes it a designated UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. The region is a collection
of villages including Baie-Saint-Paul,
La Malbaie, Saint-Irenee,
Les Eboulements,
Isle-aux-Coudres and others.
National parks that can be found in Charlevoix include the Parc
national des Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Riviere-Malbaie and Parc
national des Grands-Jardins. Both these parks and other natural sites offer
numerous activities such as cycling, hiking, fishing, canoeing and more. Skiing
is also a main attraction with premier destinations including Le
Massif and Mont
Grands-Fonds. Arts and culture thrive in the region as seen by the numerous
galleries, boutiques and heritage points scattered throughout the region. Visitors
to Charlevoix can also enjoy gourmet dining as farmers, growers and producers
work together to supply quality products and ingredients. The famous
Fairmont Manoir Richelieu Hotel is located in La Malbaie-Pointe-au-Pic,
while many bed & breakfasts and inns are found scattered throughout the
region contributing to Charlevoix's charm.
